Flux is a constant metaphor in my work. I begin with no reference, generating marks and shapes that flow from an innate visual language. Thought and no thought, balance and imbalance, calm and anxiety—all are allowed. I prefer to remain a bit off-balance, perplexed, and energized.
There are many layers in each painting; all works have gone through several incarnations. I value the history that resides beneath the surface.
Walking and sitting in nature has deeply influenced my painting. The imprint of constant movement—light, water, rocks, fallen trees, birds, and micro-worlds of natural elements— bubble up and find their place when I come back to the studio. Creative work is an inexplicable process—much larger than the “little me.”
