Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Katherine Duncan Aimone studied painting in college, but it was not until 2008 that she came back to working as a painter. In March 2010 she exhibited her work at the Asheville Area Arts Council in North Carolina. In October of 2010, her paintings will be exhibited with the work of ceramicist Erin Jones at the Village Studios and Gallery in Greenville, South Carolina.

Aimone earned her MA in art history from Florida State University in the early 1980s and began a career in museum work, serving as the curator at the DeLand Museum of Art ( now Museum of Florida Art) and, later as curator at the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida.

Her professional trek took her to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she served as Director of the arts center there. Several years later, she returned to her home state of North Carolina to take the job of Curator at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville.

In 1998 she moved to Florida, and it was during this period of time that she met her husband, Steven Aimone. She moved back to Asheville, where she worked as an editor at Lark Books, and Steve joined her soon thereafter. The couple married in 2000.

Her name is on the cover of many books, including The Fiberarts Book of Wearable Art (2004), a collection of 40 essays about various artists. Throughout her career, she has written essays for exhibition catalogues as well as art-related articles for newspapers and magazines. In 2003, she curated a retrospective of the work of artist Tim Murray at Brevard College in NC, and in 2007 wrote the catalogue essay for Micala Sidore: Black/White/Red All Over shown at The New Hampshire Institute of Art.

Since 2001, she and Steve Aimone have owned and operated Aimone Art Services. The company provides workshops, coaching, critique, and writing for artists. The couple resides in Asheville during most of the year and spend summers on Monhegan Island, Maine. Steve Aimone is a nationally known workshop teacher and author.
